Jason L. Riley, a Manhattan Institute senior fellow and Wall Street Journal contributor, was recently disinvited from speaking at Virginia Tech this fall. He spoke with WNYC’s Brian Lehrer about how his writings on race–including his book Please Stop Helping Us—led the school to rescind his invitation and why he believes this was an attempt “to shield students from conservative views in general and from black conservatives in particular.”
“If I were to go around giving speeches that sounded like Jelani Cobb, or Ta-Nehisi Coates or Michael Eric Dyson I don’t think they’d have a problem with me coming. It’s the different point of view that they object to.”
